    University of Rome La Sapienza

    Altogether the University La Sapienza has over 200 people among teachers, researchers, fellows and doctoral students, engaged in precompetitive research and applied in the field of propulsion, structures, avionics, space systems and aerodynamics.

    It is active in the physics of matter, of complex systems, in theoretical physics, nuclear and subnuclear and in astrophysics and space physics. Also, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics of the machines, the technology materials, design dynamic and structural development of new technologies and management of plants.     Main activities are:

    • Numerical simulation of a tunnel wind for the analysis of the aerodynamic flow of a helicopter;
    • Numerical model of aerodynamics analysis, aeroacoustics and aeroelastic of a helicopter rotor in forward flight, in a potential transonic flow ;
    • Development of mathematical models and numeric for the design multidisciplinary spacecraft and the control of space shuttles during atmospheric reentry.

    University of Cassino

    The University of Cassino guarantees an important and positive contribution in aerospace, through projects devoted mainly the study of materials, construction and engine applicable to the sector.

    CNR (National Research Council)

    The National Research Council is the leading public scientific body of Italy and has a strong presence in aerospace and is present especially on issues Earth observation, technology Information and telecommunications, dynamic the flight and propulsion, materials, sensors edispositivi, robotics, astrobiology, development of application services.

    INAF (National Institute for Astrophysics)

    Main Challenges

    Reaching future goals is a challenge because the culture of collaboration in Italy is not so strong. Large companies have a hard time making their innovation processes more ‘modern’ and ‘open’ to the outside world. Regional agencies have a hard time coordinating with industry locally (all very political). Lazio CONNECT cannot fix all these ‘systemic’ problems, but can work bottom-up. If, like in 2015 already, Lazio manages to build good collaborative projects and bring value to their members they can create the idea that collaboration is useful to everybody and should be invested in by all stakeholders.
